20 Questions with Antoni

I have an interest for underground rap music. It’s something that just intrigues me. I like the unnoticed nature of these artists because many of these artists are superbly talented. I especially like artists from New England because I also live in New England. One day I was on 2dopeboyz and I came across an artist named Antoni, who had a song with a Rhode Island musician that I listen to (Theo Martins.) The little excerpt thing said that Antoni (formerly known as Fly C) was from Boston. So of course I clicked on the link, and what I heard was great music. Quickly after I followed him on twitter and he followed back. He then released his latest project “Overnight” to a generally positive reception. I liked this project and I’ve tweeted with him on numerous occasions. So when I decided to do a 20 question interview series with musicians and athletes, he was one of the first people I contacted. The point of this interview series is to not only get to know about the musical aspect, but to also know about the artist themselves. This is my first interview with any artist or athlete. So, without delay here is, 20 questions with Antoni.

Why do you make music?
I make music because it’s a passion of mines. I've loved writing ever since the day I penned my first rhyme and when I complete a song I feel accomplished. It could potentially be something that may help someone somewhere in the world.

What are your top 3 favorite songs by anyone and why?
My favorite songs always switch. I love listening to new artist. My current favorite song is Damn Your Eyes by Alex Clare. Super talented vocalist based out of London. If there were 2 more songs it'd probably be from him as well haha.

What are your top 3 Antoni songs and why?
I haven't created them yet. I have no favs. Every time I record something I love it, but my opinion changes the more I listen and critique my records. Every artist says they're their own worst critic and it's very true. I'm very critical, so for me to have a favorite id have to be able to listen to it 100 times and not get tired of it

3 Most played songs on your iPod or iTunes.

Suicidal Thoughts by the Notorious BIG, U Don't Know by Jay-Z, and Swear to God by Rozay plays with the volume on 100.

3 People that you would like to meet.

John Lennon, Biggie, King Tutankhamen

If you could have 3 songs to collaborate with anyone you want,
who would it be and who would produce?
I'd have a record with John Lennon produced by 40. Lennon on the hook of course. I'd have a record with Andre 3000 and 2 Chainz produced by Reckless Dex. I'll have a collaboration with Alex Clare and Lauren hill produced by Illangelo/co-produced by Clams Casino

What is Villain?

We go by Villain, and we're a bunch of young ambitious artist/innovators/video directors etc. the name comes from us taking what we want out of life. A villain will take what he believes is theirs.

Nike or Reebok?

Jordan lol

What are your favorite spots to eat in Boston and why?

My favorite spot is this Brazilian restaurant called Oliverà in east Boston. My 2nd favorite is Casa de Pedro. Best Venezuelan food I've ever had.

If I were to turn on your TV, what channel would it be on and why?
Something that will either educate you or it'll be on something that'll make you laugh your ass off. I watch the food channel, I love learning how to cook new things. I watch the discovery channel and the history channel a lot. I don't watch a lot of TV though, I have literally 4 or 5 channels I go to. Oh I can't forget about Espn

How did you hook up with the TrackSlayerz?

To be honest, I met one of the producers when he hit my boy up via MySpace about our production. He basically said that me and my boy were great rappers but our production sucked. To make a long story short, we were all young and ready to make something happen so we exchanged numbers and they started sending us records.

Is there any difference from Fly C and Antoni?

No difference besides the name, same person but every day I learn something new and strive to be better than I was yesterday.

How is it growing up in New England?
Depends on where you grow up. I'm from Boston. The part where I grew up was a tough neighborhood. It taught me a lot though, and I'm happy that I'm making something of myself coming from where I grew up.

Who would win in a 3 point competition, Kwame Brown or Antoni?

I would! Haha

Describe your process of writing a song.

I listen to the record about 10 times, get a feel for the record. I mumble a big and then I do the first 8 bars in my head, and write the rest out. My memory can only hold 8 bars at a time.

What made you write "Should've Known"? Was there an outside influence?

Reckless Dex sends me beats and I get my concepts based on the sound of the record. I just had that vibe where I wanted to express that you should know that even when you feel you're at a roadblock that you can overcome that feeling within the blink of an eye. It's simple, change the way you feel and it'll change the way you live.

What is your ultimate goal that you want to get out of music?
I want to help people. I enjoy when people tell me that they understand me or understand my lyrics. I like touching home with my fans, so I'd just like to touch more people with my music. Having millions is a bonus

Is there a new project in the works and what can you say about that?
I can't say much about it, but there will be a project from me out this year.

If there is a new project coming, who else will be involved?
Reckless Dex of course, and whoever else that is ready to work.

What else can we expect from Antoni in the future?
Expect everything, cause that's what I'm going to do. Everything that I can do. My mind doesn't stop working, my hands will be all over different projects aside from music. I love the entertainment business

Villain, shouts to Reckless Dex, my brother Dex Le, the mayhem music crew, and thank you for the interview. I appreciate it.
